About the Artist
Marie
Spaulding is a visual artist whose preferred medium is wool and objects
found in nature. Her wall hangings and unusual wool sculptures will
capture your attention and revive your imagination.
Marie uses traditional wet felting techniques and the
more modern practice of needle felting in the creation of her hand made
felt pieces. She lives with her husband Rodney
Gene in Austin, TX. "Rodney's music serves as amazing accompaniment
during my creations, and most especially his Healing
Tones series." ( these are now available online
free for downloading )
Artist's Statement
For many years I cried out to the universe to
show me my creative voice...I was searching for "my piano",
and I felt a strong desire to express the voice of my spirit, with no
way to do so. I began drawing with graphite and colored pencils, and
ulitmately found my release and my greatest creative joy in wool.
My creative methods and inspirations vary as much as my outcomes. Sometimes
I "see" imagery in objects found in nature, sometimes I have
visions, and often both sketches and compositions come to me as I am
working on them. When I am creating my art, I am one with it, not thinking,
just being, almost like active meditation. Some of my work is abstract,
some symbolic, some quite whimsical...I have several artistic voices,
and each one gets to play whenever they like.
Commissions
Marie is available to create a unique and personalized
work of art for your home, office or as a gift for someone who appreciates
uncommon and original art works.
Sometimes a previous piece can be emulated, but can never
be exactly duplicated. We can work together to choose color palette
and design based on your desires.
Largest possible size for a solid piece at this time is approx. 5 feet
x 8 feet.
Hanging methods vary for smaller pieces and larger pieces
will be mounted on wood.
"Floating" or hidden mounts are available and create an interesting
way to display works.
